When I Started:

Apr, 1981

How I Started:

Some chick in college told me I was too skinny to have a serious relationship with... I fooled her because that wasn't exactly what I had in mind at the time! But that ticked me off, so much, I immediately joined a local gym.

Not just any gym a powerlifting gym.

Why I Love It:

I let go of all my stress when I lift. Many lives have been saved because of this (haha) and the other reason is I love the pump... the feeling of your skin stretching the fullness in your muscles.... it's euphoric!  Kind of a head and body rush all rolled into one.

There are really not many words that clearly describe the feeling!

How I Stay Motivated:

The mirror. Damn I look good! Seriously... I receive a lot of very nice compliments about my physique. I also realize that I motivate a large number of people to reach their fitness goal which is in and of itself... pretty cool. It's amazing what you can do to and with your body... I'm completely fascinated by it, really.

"Citius, Altius, Fortius"... Always!

BB Accomplishments:

I've competed in 17 bodybuilding shows since I turned 42... my best placing to date has been a FIRST place! As a matter of fact I have several 1ST place awards & Several OVER ALL MASTERS AWARDS too.. I've also placed in the top 5 of the Emerald Cup in Bellevue, WA. However some of the young fellas at the gym talked me into competing at a powerlifting event a couple years ago and I took first place in 2 master's categories (over 40 to 49). I also won best deadlift for all masters men in all weight classes with a 505 lb pull. Yes that's 3 first place awards in one afternoon.

Forum Signature:

It takes just one hour in the gym... but it's the other twenty-three hours in the kitchen that really count. If you don't experience some discomfort or pain from your diet...

You're probably not doin' it right!

My Hobbies:

Matt's other interest are movies, reading sci-fi, skiing, skating,  his dog, his koi and being outdoors in the sun.... at the lake!  Additionally, he has 2 wonderful children and two grandkids!
